Goodbye Sue

Starting in the Summer of 1988 my life began to take shape and my favorite color for any outfit changed to navy blue. However on Sunday's my choice of color was white. I spent the next 6 summers wearing plenty of navy and lots of white. I am and always will be a member of the Creek tribe of Camp Desoto. I learned a lot those years about friendship, family, and faith. I will never forget the summers of never getting thirsty, Christmas in July, and always being unapologetically square. The memory I will take with me most was the friendship and guidance of Camp Director Sue Henry. I never met a lady like her and I don't think I ever will. Sue left this world today and while I never knew if she preferred the color red, green, or navy, I do know that she loved the color white and as I type I know she is standing on a white cloud with the receiving the biggest white wings the heavens have ever seen and that my friends is an outfit we should all strive to have. Sue we will all miss you, but we will never forget you.

Romper Room!!!!

.........Well not exactly. I wanted to point out that I have noticed a lot of young women pulling out the rompers/jumpsuits this summer. Rompers and Jumpsuits have been around for years. One wonders what it is that sends the trend to the masses. I have been pretty busy lately so haven't really had my eye on the celeb magazines. I can only speculate that some widely followed celebrity adorned a very cute romper. I don't think at my age I can pull it off. This is only because I am short and if I put heels with it - well I have an image in my head that puts me on the corner on somewhere not good. Anyway, here are some really cute ones for those of you with fabulous long legs! Oh and I have not idea who Miss June and Andy are - so don't ask.....

Tuesday

Belts

I have a lot of solid pieces in my summer wardrobe that I have had for some time and am not quite ready to part with them. I feel safe in saying that I am not the only one. If you are like me and want to add a little color to your old standards you can never go wrong with a bright colored belt. Belts were all over the runway in the spring collections and you can find them anywhere and for any price. I have posted some of my favorites for summer.

I found these belts at anthropologie and net-a-porter. However, check out your favorite store or online retailer and I guarantee you will find the perfect belt that fits your style. Oh and for all you preppies don't go thinking a pink and green D-Ring is your touch of color!

Travel Travel and More Travel

Since I last posted I have been in Seattle, WA, all over Oregon, Key West, Florida, and Memphis, TN and New Albany, MS. I am back in Jackson today only to head to Santa Monica, CA on Friday. I cannot complain as it has all been so much fun! Part work and part play.

Over the weekend my older brother Haywood finally got married to the most wonderful lady in the world. I am so happy that Lisa Wagner is my sister in law!

Last night I was in New Albany, MS at the courthouse downtown eagerly awaiting the election results. One of the candidates running is not only my best friend and mentor, but my mother. We had a great night and a small victory as mom will face the incumbent in a run off on May 19th. If you read this and are from New Albany please vote for Betsey on May 19th! She is the best candidate for the job!

VOTE BETSEY!!!!!
MAY 19th

I am also working on a big announcement for One Eye Toad. We have held off on making one until we know EXACTLY what we want to say and how we want to say it, but I promise it will be well worth the wait! Exciting times for the Hamiltons!

I promise to have tons of pictures to post soon. I have been terrible about getting my pictures downloaded! I have pictures from Jan. still dying to be displayed.

I hope you are all doing well and that your May has started off as fabulous as mine!

Tuesday

Are they really coming back.....

I keep hearing it, I keep ignoring it, but lately I can't quit thinking about it. Are shoulder pads really coming back? I am terrified if they are. Are we not passed the working girl phase where women think in order to be in a "mans world" she needs a little something extra to make her seem powerful? I am not one to follow trends and thank goodness because this is not something I would ever try and attempt. I didn't fall prey to the tight roll comeback and feel very confident I will not be boarding this train either. However, if you feel the need to be extra assertive at work these days and don't believe it can happen without these falsies then by all means pad up and stand tall. I on the other hand will just hold my shoulders back like momma taught me and walk while placing one foot carefully in front of the other.

Sunday

April Showers...

This is the time of year that can produce some of the most desired weather or some of the most undesired. I constantly find myself wondering what to put on during this season. It’s hard, especially for those who start buying spring and summer attire in February. The clothes have been hanging in your closet just screaming wear me, wear me! Well you can and you should. Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to let beautiful spring clothes suffer. It’s not their fault its 50 degrees and cloudy at the end of March. My tip for you is find a great wrap, the ever elusive perfect denim jacket, blazer or a light weight cardigan and rip those tags off…. I mean cut the tags off (Right mom?) And the plus of wearing these items now? When you shed the layers in May and July it’s a whole new wardrobe!

Wednesday

So not Vintage.... yet

I am in Atlanta this week - haven't been home in a week and am so ready. Okay that's besides the point. I ran into Old Navy tonight and looked at their tees. Well, you know how some of the junior type stores have those section of tees they try to make look vintage? Anyway this is one I saw tonight - seriously......Whatever......

Thursday

Give me a W....

As in WHAT? So I am in the Orlando airport this afternoon surrounded by a lot of high school cheerleaders. I cheered in high school, and loved wearing the uniform to school on Friday, and when it was cold I wore my white Wal-Mart sweatpants underneath. It was cute, I was cute, everyone was cute and our parents kept money in their pockets. I think my senior year we ordered one new uniform as the three we had were about five or six years old. They didn't look bad, but I guess it was needed. Anyway, I think we paid a deposit of 50.00 to have these uniforms throughout the season.

These girls were all out from head to toe. They had cute sweatpants, bags, matching tees, and these outrageous garment bags that I can only imagine carried their brand new uniforms. I can only fathom what their parents paid to have all of this made for them, cause lets face it you don't hand down anything that's monogrammed. If you did can you imagine the politics involved in tryouts. Anyway, all I am saying is we were cute and that was without all the gear. Our parents saved the money for college and in my case real clothes that were meant for finding dates to football games not cheering at them.

Monday

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yesterday I celebrated my birthday and on Saturday night I had a Mardi Gras themed birthday with my closest friends. The party was for Beth too of course and my best friend Macy whose birthday is this coming weekend. I will post more later, but had to go ahead and post a picture of the wonderful cakes Jill Tinnin created for us - at Matt's request!

Wednesday

I wish....

I could say that I am blogging live from the front row of all the best fashion shows in New York this week, but sad to say I am not even close. I am in my new house in Jackson, MS. I hope to get back on track with the blogging now that I am finally settled.

This weekend is my birthday and while I love birthday's, I tend to like others birthdays better than my own. One problem I have with my birthday is that it is at the end of February and I always want to but a new "birthday outfit" My dilemma is, I can never find anything because nothing is left. All the spring clothes are out and it's still cold. Some might suggest buying the birthday outfit a little early, but I am not one to let a great outfit hang it the closet with the tags on. Anyway, that's just one of my problems with my birthday, the others I will keep to myself.

I will be back next week with a recap of my wonderful birthday party that I am throwing for myself and most importantly a look at what we can expect in the world of fashion for Fall 2009.
